Not to be confused with Sun Tzu’s The Art of War, Steven Pressfield’s, The War of Art is a must-read for anyone wanting to accomplish anything meaningful in their life. When unleashing your creative force, you’ll always be confronted with the obstacle of resistance. There’s a war raging inside every day to deplete and rob you of your calling in life. How will you win if you don’t know our enemy? This is why I recommend that all my coaching clients read Steven Pressfield’s “The WAR of ART.”
Pressfield argues that while most people have a desire to unleash their God-given talents and make the contribution to our world that they are placed here to do, they allow various things and distractions to stand in their way and prevent their success.
These obstacles resist our every move and must be identified and actively fought to achieve creative success. “Resistance,” is an unconscious force that wars against our conscious desires and sabotages our work.
Pressfield writes: Our job in this life is not to shape ourselves into some ideal we imagine we ought to be but to find out who we already are and become it.”
