Success is not a random event; you must prepare and practice to overcome the obstacles and succeed in your business. Don’t leave your success education to chance; be prepared. Without circulation, we become stagnant. When we learn, we must practice, then teach and mentor others. I’ve been mentored by scores of successful leaders in this industry and a multitude of authors of hundreds of books and audios, resting on the shelves in my office library.
I live on a beautiful lake here in Seattle. Most people who have been here for the first time ask what the source of the lake is. I explain that it’s fed by underground springs. They rarely ask where the lake flows to. There has to be an outlet otherwise the lake would overflow during the heavy rain season. And during the Summer, the lake would be a stagnating pool of water. Personal growth requires circulation. We receive input from gaining knowledge and getting educated but it is taking action and sharing what we learn that keeps us from stagnating.
I think we can all agree that we must continue to learn and grow. My learning quest never ends as I continue to read, listen, watch, study, and model what successful people do. As a consultant, business coach, and trainer, I have the privilege to associate with many of John Maxwell’s certified coaches, speakers, and trainers because the learning environment constantly challenges me to become better along with an amazing group of success-minded people.
Recently while listening to the world-class speaker and one of my all-time favorites, Les Brown, he emphasized the importance of mentorship and lifelong learning. Did you know that Les Brown spends more than $100,000 per year on personal development and coaching? Yes, even Les Brown, one of the top five motivational speakers and leadership gurus in the world, has a mentor! Don’t get stagnant! The education cycle is to learn, do, and teach, and then teach others to learn, do, and teach. It is this continuous cycle that creates vitality and sustained personal growth.
