Leadership Principles for Business and Organization Growth

Leaders are learners and doers that lead by example. Leadership is a process that begins with personal growth and learning leadership. As we participate in the process of leadership development and increase our leadership acumen we increase our value to the marketplace. We learn through the process of personal growth and leading by example.

Grow leaders and grow your network.  Leadership Influence is not measured by merely the size of your organization; it is measured by the health of your organization and how many leaders you are developing. Spend quality time with those that lead. Develop an inner circle of leaders who you communicate with weekly and daily.  Continually raise the bar and set the example for activity, progress, and growth. Never devalue followers either, they are just as important.

Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about
growing others. —Jack Welch

Leaders value management. Contrary to some lines of thought, managing is a necessary function of leadership. Leaders develop an eye for the details but don’t get bogged down in them. Leaders learn how to delegate day-to-day tasks. Leaders keep track and periodically check for organizational vital signs. Accurate communication, systems of support, and ongoing maintenance prevent problems. It is okay to manage things. Managers maintain things, and leaders grow people.

You manage things; you lead people. —Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper

Leaders are grateful and stay grounded Don’t let success go to your head. Although prominent, well-recognized leaders are lauded for their accomplishments, real influencers stay in touch with their roots and refrain from flaunting power and wealth. Stay humble!

Leaders are authentic and accurate. Stay away from hyperboles, hype, and high-pressure sales tactics. Pay attention to detail and communicate accurately to your team. If you’re dishonest, you’re not an authentic influencer. Don’t compromise your personal credibility. Leaders build a business with a long-term perspective, not a quick buck.

Accuracy is the twin brother of honesty; inaccuracy, of dishonesty. —Nathaniel Hawthorne

Leaders are sensitive to cultural differences.  In this global market, we are working with people from diverse cultures, countries, and ethnicities. Be respectful and careful what you say and what you do as you with the cultural differences locally and as you travel to other countries.

Take advantage of every opportunity to practice your communication skills so that when important occasions arise, you will have the gift, the style, the sharpness, the
clarity, and the emotions to affect other people. —Jim Rohn
